Interviewing Classmates Reflection
I am so proud of you boys and girls. Keep up the great work!
We just finished publishing a piece of writing from the “Non-Fiction” unit of study. In this unit, we worked on skills and nonfiction strategies that good writers use when they are trying to teach their reader about a topic that they are expert in. They researched their topics using the internet, things from home and the school/classroom library.
The children also just finished learning how to read non-fiction books/magazines and that their approach to reading non-fiction should be different than their approach to reading fictional stories.
Since we have been working a great deal with the computers, cameras and movie making software, I thought we might try making non-fiction movies instead. It was also the perfect project to use to introduce the children to The Super 3.
Are first graders too young to learn how to research?
Absolutely NOT! The Super3 teaches them to plan, do and review. Students who learn how to think critically about their tasks using these 3 simple steps will have increased success on school assignments as well as on state standardized tests.

Hello! I am so proud of you for getting on the computer and blogging the things that you found that are white! Great job boys and girls
.
Now for your next task: In your homework packet is a "Measurement Madness" math page. Feel free to blog your answers here instead of handing them in on the page in your homework packet. Have fun! I can’t wait to see what you find.
Hello! So, in class we have been trying to list as many things that we can that are the color white. Now it’s time to step up our game! We are going to be working with Ms. Stern’s class to see who can come up with the most "white" things. I CHALLENGE you to list your white items on our blog. Ms. Stern’s class will be checking our blog and we will be checking hers to see who’s got the most. We will be making a bulltein board and posting it in the hallway. Have fun and Happy blogging!
PS. Don’t forget about our mealworm challenge! There will be a new one up this afternoon
Okay boys and girls. I hope you are ready! Since we are beginning our Mealworm Unit, I thought it would be a good idea to start with a challenge.
Using either www.askkids.com or www.yahooligans.com, find 3 facts about mealworms and post them on the blog. We will be checking daily to see who is challenging themselves!
As always, before using the computer ask an adult at home for permission. I can’t wait to see what you find. Happy researching

The students are learning how to connect information and events in text using a venn diagram. The venn diagram is a visual which illustrates character differences and similarities that exist as well as universals that unite us as human beings.
